Gianna has a condition called single umbilical artery. For some babies this can be tragic for most they come out just fine. A normal umbilical cord has 3 vessels to it. This condition causes the umbilical cord to have 2. For babies who this causes a problem for, all the problems can be detected before hand in the ultra sounds. She has been checked thoroughly and has not had any signs of there being any problems and my doctor expects her to be just fine. I will continue extra exams and tests for the rest of the pregnancy though to make sure she is doing okay. Their biggest concern now is that it is common for babies to have to be taken up to a month early. Starting at 32 weeks I will be going to the hospital every 3 days for her to be checked.
March 1st she has her first echo cardiogram. Them another ultrasound on March
2nd. And another doctors appointment on March 9th. It seems every month from here on out there will be about one or two additional appointments. LOL she is already high maintainence. Other than that she is kicking often and keeping me hungry. She is also growing into my ureter ( the tube that drains your kidneys) so they are keeping an eye on that to make sure it does not become completely blocked. If it does they will have to put a stint in to keep it open. Right now my right kidney is only slightly backing up and it is not neccesary fo the stint. I will try to keep updated posts. Live, love, and pray.
